A list of what you need – to create own website

Create your website is not as difficult as you might think, but if you’re new to all this could easily be overwhelmed. To have your website up and running, there are some things to observe and help if you think about them before you start building your website. Here’s a quick checklist:

1) Business site or site private?
2) Know the contents of your site
3) Choose a name for your site
4) Buy a domain name
5) Decide on a web hosting
6) Choose a model
7) Get a file transfer program (FTP =)

As you realize, there are a few decisions to make. Obviously it’s different if you want to have a private personal website with some pictures on it (in this case, you can also choose a free offer where you can upload some pictures and send the link around to friends and family) or if you’re going to have their business (in which case they should be more considered).

Let’s look at the corporate website and what you need to create one. If you want to build your business on the Internet, you may already know what kind of activities you want to be involved with. You should do a little ’niche search and check if you have a good chance with your business or not, but I’m not at this time. Start writing content for your website. Store several files on your computer, consider how your "About Me" page should look like (a personal history is always nice) and what kind of photos you want to use.

Then, sit down and choose a name for your site – this will be the URL. Do not choose a very long or difficult, because no one will remember. Be careful not to choose a product name, because the owner of the product may not agree that you are using the name of your site (and may already be taken anyway). Why not use your name? Your name is like ’franchise that’, like all the others!

Buying a domain name (GoDaddy is a good place to go) and decide on a web hosting. My web host is Host Gator and I am very satisfied. He has 24 / 7, is very cheap, very reliable, offers lots of useful free software – Host Gator was the company of my choice (after trying another host first web).

If you are not in HTML programming (which I certainly do not), go find a good template for your site. You can compare a model with a picture frame: the model is the frame and the content you provide is the image. You might also consider Word Press to build your site (like I did). Yes, I know, Word Press is a blogging software, but you can use to build your home page. The advantage with Word Press is the amount of space (and beautiful), the models, there are tons of very useful plug-ins available, and if you have any problems with Word Press, it’s easy to find support anywhere.

The last point of the list is to find a file transfer program (FTP =). Why on earth will you need an FTP after taking care of everything else? Well, it is necessary to obtain the file from your computer to your hosting company’s server. Although this is a simple process, I was a bit ’confused at the beginning and did not know how. After asking around, many advised me to use FileZilla. It ’a free, open source program, it is easy to install and I find it easy to use.

Take your time to go through this list – you will find it will help build your website!
